MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin point guard Jordan Taylor needs minor surgery on his right ankle and will miss USA Basketball's World University Games team training camp that begins next week.

Taylor, who played high school basketball at Benilde-St. Margaret's in St. Louis Park, said in a statement on Thursday that he wanted to make sure he was healthy for the start of his senior season and didn't want to risk delaying the procedure while participating in the USA camp in Colorado Springs, Colo.

A Wisconsin spokesman says the wear and tear of last season necessitated the surgery. Taylor is not expected to miss any practice time heading into the season.

Taylor ranked fourth in the Big Ten averaging 18.1 points last year, leading Wisconsin to its 13th straight NCAA tournament appearance.
