In a 5-1 vote July 11 the Glencoe-Silver Lake School Board opted not to renew the contract of long-time coach Don Tangen.

Superintendent Chris Sonju said the administrative staff decided the program needed to "go in a new direction," and he thanked Tangen for his years of service to the school district.

No successor has been named, but Sonju said the position will be opened up for candidates.
