As much of a feel-good story as Virginia is after qualifying for its second high school state tournament in the past 46 years, the Blue Devils know they will be wearing the black hats for today’s Minnesota Class 2A quarterfinal against Perham.
That’s because the Yellowjackets are sure to be the fan favorite after overcoming the midseason tragedy of Zach Gabbard’s in-game cardiac arrest to subsequently qualify for the first state tournament in school history.
Virginia (26-4) and Perham (28-1) meet at 6 p.m. at Williams Arena in Minneapolis, with the winner advancing to Friday’s semifinals at Target Center.
