Hopkins gets even by beating Eden Prairie

HOPKINS 73, EDEN PRAIRIE 60: After suffering their only loss of the season to Eden Prairie on Feb. 1, the Royals had a little payback in mind. They earned their revenge with a stifling pressure defense and 17-2 second-half run to pull even with Eden Prairie at 4-1 in the Lake Conference. Leading 47-43, the Royals forced a turnover and senior Joe Coleman found junior Zach Stahl for a dunk, keying the run that eventually got the Royals out to a 19-point lead. Coleman, who led all scorers with 25 points, said it was nice to have a chance to play the new conference foe again after losing to Eden Prairie earlier this month. “We never got to avenge our losses last year, but we were able to get this one back this year,” Coleman said. Eden Prairie leading scorer Dylan Stewart provided most of the offense for the Eagles, scoring 14 of his 20 points in the second half. Stahl and junior Siyani Chambers each chipped in 15 points for the Royals.

IRONDALE 76, BENILDE-ST. MARGARET’S 73: Bryan Sprang continued his run of scoring excellence, making four three-pointers and nine of 10 free throws en route to a season-high 38 points as the Knights handed the Red Knights their first North Suburban Conference loss of the season. Irondale took control in the first half, racing out to a 38-24 halftime lead.

St. MICHAEL-ALBERTVILLE 70, CAMBRIDGE-ISANTI 68 [2OT]: What a bittersweet two-game stretch for Cambridge-Isanti guard Ted Lutterman. After scoring 44 points in an 83-81 overtime loss to Duluth Central Thursday, he scored 40 points, including a game-tying three-pointer at the end of regulation and two free throws to send the game into a second overtime before St. Michael-Albertville emerged victorious. Lutterman made 22 three-pointers in the two losses.

EDINA 90, MINNETONKA 86 [3OT]: Marley Allison’s three-pointer from the left wing with nine second left in the third overtime game ednia the lead for good. After Minnetonka missed a potential game-tying layup, Edina’s Brendan Canova sealed the victory with two free throw.
