Columbia Heights edges Minneapolis North

COLUMBIA HEIGHTS 73, MPLS. NORTH 72: Trailing 70-61 with 4:30 remaining, the Hylanders hopes of a comeback took a major blow when metro-leading scorer Zach Lofton suffered an undetermined injury to his left knee and was forced to the bench. But Columbia Heights, ranked No. 8 in Class 3A, embarked on an inspired 12-2 run to close the game, capped off by junior guard Ben Glover’s 10-foot jumper with 15 seconds remaining. North missed a chance to win the game at the buzzer. Glover finished with 11 points, while Lofton ended the game with 27 points.

CENTENNIAL 67, BLAINE 63: Blaine senior guard Tanner Schumacher led all scorers with 25 points, but it was the bucket he missed that decided the Northwest Suburban matchup. With 6 seconds left and the Bengals down 66-63, Schumacher squared up for a three-point attempt at the top of the key, but was blocked by Centennial’s Joshua Matheson. Matheson led the Cougars with 19 points.

ELK RIVER 69, COON RAPIDS 56: Senior forward Ben Erickson pumped in a season-high 26 points as Elk River defeated the host Cardinals in the Northwest Suburban.

MPLS. SOUTH 71, MPLS. ROOSEVELT 56: South senior guard Walter Abram is getting back into a groove on the hardwood. In just his third game of the season, the senior guard tallied a career-high in points (23) and assists (four). Junior forward Thomas Ford added a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds, while recording five steals. Roosevelt was led by senior Karl Wiley’s 17 points.

OSSEO 69, ANOKA 58: Seniors Joey Sonnenfeld and Terez Vanpelt combined to lift the Orioles past Anoka in the Northwest Suburban. Sonnenfeld recorded a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Vanpelt scored a team-high 21 points while handing out 6 assists.

WACONIA 67, GLENCOE-SILVER LAKE 61: The host Wildcats trailed by six at halftime, but stormed back in the second half behind 6-foot-9 senior forward Shelby Moats’ 39 points and 12 rebounds in the Wright County.
