Myles Barnes scored just one field goal all game, but it was the biggest one for Benilde-St. Margaret's in a 62-60 thriller over Cretin-Derham Hall at the Breakdown Sports Tip Off Classic at Minnetonka High School. Barnes, the Red Knights' defensive stopper, gathered in a rebound off Isaiah Zierden's missed three and pushed an 8-foot fall-away as the buzzer sounded.
Zierden had tied the game at 60-all with a driving layup seconds earlier, as the Red Knights overcame a late deficit. The junior guard finished with a game-high 26 points and was calm and collected throughout. Kyle Washington (14 points) and Sanjay Lumpkin (11) also hit double-figures for the Red Knights.
Cretin-Derham Hall was paced by senior guard Raijon Kelly (18 points), Taylor Montero (13) and 6-foot-6 senior forward Conor Quicksell (11).
Isaiah Zierden, Benilde
Zierden, a 6-foot-2 junior guard, scored a game-high 26 points and was the primary ball-handler for the Red Knights down the stretch. He hit a driving layup to tie the game at 60-all and then was the shooter on the final winning play. His three-pointer went awry, but Myles Barnes had just enough to time to gather it in for the winning putback.
