Five-time defending Class 3A champion DeLaSalle picked up a win over one of Iowa's top teams last Saturday in one of four boys' games at the Breakdown Sports Girls' Tip Off Classic.
The Islanders, who are ranked No. 1 in Class 3A by Minnesota Basketball News, seek to make a statement in the Breakdown Sports Boys’ Tip Off Classic this week, proving themselves against Minnesota big-school contender Maple Grove, which is ranked fourth in Class 4A by Minnesota Basketball News.
George Mason commit Goanar Mar poured in 27 points to lead DeLaSalle (1-0) over Des Moines Hoover (Iowa) 65-60, and the senior will lead his teammates into two more games to ready themselves for the meeting with No. 4-4A Maple Grove, a program that is coming off its first state tournament appearance in five years and a 25-5 overall record.
Wisconsin commit Brad Davison, a Minnesota Mr. Basketball candidate, will likely lead the Crimson this season after averaging 21.2 points and 7.3 assists per game as a junior.
DeLaSalle was 1-1 against Class 4A schools last season and will be looking to improve the mark against a Maple Grove team that opens its season on Friday and is hoping to record a win against a high-caliber opponent just a day later, making this matchup our Top Game of the Week.
