Zach Speikers scores 33 points as Tigers overcome big early deficit to beat hot-shooting Wingers

To every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. That is Newton's third law of motion.

It also also seemed to be the law in the game between Farmington and Red Wing on Friday night, as the teams dealt blows back and forth all night.

Zach Speikers would hit a 3-pointer for Farmington, and Isaac Toivonen would do the same for Red Wing. The two teams traded punches, but in the end, it was Farmington that overcame a huge deficit and came out victorious, grabbing a 69-64 win over the Wingers at Farmington High School.

Farmington trailed by as much as 16 early, and it took most of both halves to complete the comeback.

“Hot is an understatement,” Farmington coach Shane Wyandt said about Red Wing's early shooting. “They were unbelievably hot.”

Toivonen, who finished the game with 20 points, and the Wingers led by seven at halftime. Farmington kept it close behind the shooting of Zach Speiker, who hit six 3-pointers and had a game-high 33 points.

“My last game I wasn't very pleased at all, so I just dialed in a lot more tonight and got more focus,” Speikers said.

That focus helped lead a charge that saw a 12-point Red Wing lead evaporate in just under six minutes towards the end of the second half. According to Wyandt, it wasn't just Speikers who was able to dial it in toward the end of the half.

“We didn't really change offensively, it was just a change in focus and a couple personnel changes,” he said.

“We were able to hold our composure and not let (the deficit) get to us,” Speikers said.
