Cristo Rey Finishes Second in Holiday Tournament

Minneapolis, MN - The Cristo Rey Jesuit boys basketball team continued to set school records over the winter holiday break.

The team participated in the Trinity Tri-Hawk Tournament at Trinity at River Ridge and took second in the tournament.

The Cristo Rey Pumas played for their first tournament championship, beat a Tri-Metro opponent, and saw their first dunk in school history.

The Cristo Rey Pumas started the tournament against St. Agnes, who featured sharpshooter Nick Turch. St. Agnes would lead late in the game, when freshmen Jericho Sims got out into the open court off a steal and assist from Davonte Smith for the school's first dunk. Turch would hit eight three-point baskets, but it wasn't enough as Cristo Rey escaped with a 49-46 victory.

The second round matchup was against the tournament host, Trinity at River Ridge. Cristo Rey played their most patient and focused offensive game of the season. They shot 64% from the field and went on to win 68-63.

The championship game featured the Brooklyn Center Centaurs and Cristo Rey. The game saw many lead changes, but it was Brooklyn Center who took it late. Tedkye Clark was too much, as he led all scorers with 27 points. Cristo Rey was led by Brandon Williams with 22 points and 15 rebounds.

The Cristo Rey Jesuit Pumas jump back into Twin Cities Conference play January 10 at Minnesota Transitions.
