Some of the state's best boys' teams and players were at the annual Breakdown Tip-off Classic on Saturday at Minnetonka High School. It featured the top-ranked school in Class 4A -- Apple Valley -- along with perennial powers Hopkins and Tartan. It also showcased some of the top teams in Class 3A, 2A and 1A.
Park Center 72, Apple Valley 70: Quinton Hooker scored 26 points as the Pirates scored the upset victory over the Class 4A No. 1 Eagles. Tyus Jones, one of the top juniors in the country, had 20 points for Apple Valley.
Osseo 50, Eastview 40: The No. 4 Orioles were paced by 16 points from Bridge Tusler and 11 more from Wheeler Baker in the 10-point win.
Blake 100, Lakeview Christian 85: The Bears found a way to contain high-scoring Anders Broman, constantly having two players run out on him every time he touched the ball. They held Broman scoreless in the first half, and 19 points on the day. He is closing in on 4,000 career points.
Tartan 88, Hopkins 85: Kharie Kirkland scored 26 points, leading the Titans past the Class 4A, No. 2 Royals. Hopkins has only lost nine regular season games the previous eight years.
