Preview

Year after year these are two programs that always contend for section and conference championships regardless of expectations.

Buffalo’s Nick Guida and Scott Swansson of Woodbury are two of the better coaches in the metro and we are excited to see this match-up of teams who rarely come across one another.  This will be a senior-dominated game with Bison top returning players Peter Cassady and Ethan Freer going against Woodbury athlete Renard Suggs and his classmate Robert Claypool.

Key Matchup

Ethan Freer vs. Renard Suggs: When it comes to style of play Freer and Suggs are quite different but in terms of results they are similar. The ball will flow through their hands on just about every possession as they will impact most plays through their scoring, the attention they draw away from others, and their creation.

Prediction

Why Buffalo will win:

  • The Bison return four starters from last year’s 17-10 team: Cassady, Freer, Jason Senger, and Jackson Schepp.
  • Because the experience in their line-up includes players who contributed to Mississippi 8 Conference titles twice in their career.

Why Woodbury will win:

  • The Royals are a more athletic team and early in the year their ability to get up and down will give them an advantage.
  • Renard Suggs is one of the most explosive scorers in the state. There isn’t anybody in a purple uniform who will be able to keep him in front of them.

Our Prediction: Buffalo
