Panthers advance to Class 4A semifinals over Moorhead

No. 2 seed Lakeville North survived a strong effort from Moorhead in a 61-55 victory in Wednesday’s Class 4A boys’ basketball state tournament quarterfinals at the Target Center.

The Panthers held a mere two-point lead with two minutes and 22 seconds to play.

Three Stars

Ryan Saarela, Lakeville North
A dominating performance both in the paint and cleaning the glass. Saarela was all over the paint grabbing 13 rebounds, 7 of which were on the offensive end, and 13 points.

Grant Erickson, Lakeville North
If not for a missed free throw, Erickson would have been perfect shooting on the day. Finishing with 11 points, junior guard was all over the court getting on the nerves of the Spud's ball handlers.

Aaron Lien, Moorhead
Not only did Lien score 15 points, he also distributed the ball through every seam the Panther defense gave to hit open teammates for shots. Lien is one of the more fundamentally sound players we have seen in this tournament and makes everything he does look easy.
