Friday's section final roundup: Eden Prairie tops Chanhassen for state berth

CLASS 4A

 SECTION 2 CHAMPIONSHIP: Senior center Jordan Peterson's hook shot from the lane with 17 seconds remaining helped Eden Prairie edge Chanhassen 53-52 Friday in Chaska and advance to the state tournament. Peterson scored 10 points, part of a balanced Eagles attack that had four players in double figures. Junior Grant Schaeffer led Eden Prairie with 12 points, and both Sander Mohn and Abrian Carpenter had 10. Freshman forward Joey Witthus led the Storm with 12 points, while Jack Kozlowski added 11.

• SECTION 1 CHAMPIONSHIP: With a balanced offense and suffocating defense, Lakeville North topped Owatonna 47-34 in Rochester. The Panthers held the Huskies to 12 points in the first half, and neither team had a player score in double digits. Seniors Trey Heid and Brett Rasmussen led Lakeville North with nine points each.

 SECTION 7 CHAMPIONSHIP: Junior Matt Lochner scored 19 points, senior Taylor Stafford had 18, and Duluth East used a strong second half to push past Blaine 64-62 in Elk River. Trailing by seven at halftime, the Greyhounds held Blaine to 21 points over the final two quarters. Senior guard Alex Cappard led Blaine with 20 points.

CLASS 3A

• SECTION 3 CHAMPIONSHIP: After taking a two-point lead with a little more than four minutes remaining, DeLaSalle hit 12 free throws down the stretch to hold off Spring Lake Park 62-55 in Blaine. Islanders sophomore forward Reid Travis was 9-for-11 from the free throw line and led all scorers with 25 points. Senior Sean Scott led Spring Lake Park with 16 points.

• SECTION 4 CHAMPIONSHIP: Senior guard Marcus Marshall scored 36 points, and St. Paul Johnson pounded St. Thomas Academy 82-62 at St. Paul Washington. Johnson dominated the first half and led 41-20 at the break. Senior Thomas Sjoberg led the Cadets with 22 points.

CLASS 2A

• SECTION 8 CHAMPIONSHIP: A little more than a year after collapsing on the court from sudden cardiac arrest, Zach Gabbard is headed to the state tournament with his Perham teammates. The Yellowjackets topped Bagley 47-42 at Bemidji State University. Gabbard was cleared to return to the court in early December and has appeared in 14 games this season.
