The Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Thunder had a big test on Tuesday when they squared off against the Pierz Pioneers at St. John’s University.
It was a big test for them not only because it was an important step on their journey back to the state tournament, but also because they were facing a Pierz team composed of many players who reached the state tournament in football last fall.
Across the board, the Thunder were outsized at every position. After facing an early deficit, the Thunder took care of the ball and grabbed the lead late in the second half and held on to come away with 50-39 win and advance to the Section 6AA championship game.
