Anders Broman
Sometime Friday night, Anders Broman is expected to become the third Minnesota high school basketball players this season to reach at least 3,000 career points.
Broman, a junior guard from Lakeview Christian Academy in Duluth, is averaging a state-leading 45.8 points per game and has 2,979 points going into the game against Christ's Household of Faith. Broman scored 44 in a victory over Wrenshall on Tuesday.
Braham's Rebekah Dahlman reached that mark on Dec. 16 and Watertown-Mayer's Marissa Janning did it on Jan. 5.
Prior to this season, 14 players had topped the 3,000-point mark. All but two – Janet Karvonen of New York Mills and Joel McDonald of Chisholm – have done so since 1997. An expanded season is a most likely contributor, along with increased three-point shooting.
Worth noting
• Mounds View dedicated its basketball court Friday to longtime boys' coach Ziggy Kauls, who is retiring at the end of the season. The name? Kauls Court.
