DeLaSalle and Benilde-St. Margaret’s have been playing for the Christian Brothers Cup since 1958.

It has been a one-sided rivalry in recent years, with DeLaSalle winning eight of the last nine meetings. The last win for the Red Knights was almost seven years ago to the day, a 69-52 triumph at DeLaSalle on Dec. 23, 2015.

This meeting had fewer points but the same outcome, as the Red Knights took down the Islanders at DeLaSalle 55-49.

“It means a lot, It’s a rivalry game that’s been pretty one-sided as of late, so getting a win like this is a big momentum boost for the kids,” Benilde-St. Margaret’s head coach Damian Johnson said. “I was just happy to see those guys pull this off.”
