The undefeated Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Thunder boys’ basketball team opened up their week when they hosted Wadena-Deer Creek last Monday.
The Thunder made quick work of WDC as they took an early lead and held it en route to their 68-45 win.
Before the season, head coach Bruce Young said he wanted to be a top defensive team again this season.
With players like Duane Miller and Austin Kaiser, he will have a good chance at reaching that goal.
The length and quickness of Miller and Kaiser helped them pull down a combined 28 rebounds and allow the Thunder to get their fast break game going.
The Thunder also held WDC to an 18 percent from beyond the arc.
“We were able to take control of the game with a lot of fast break layups,” Young said.
The Thunder were able to get good shots all night finishing 22 of 34 from inside the arc.
Miller led the Thunder with 24 points and 16 rebounds on the night. He also added three assists and two steals.
Cody Sprenger scored 12 points and dished out six assists on the night. Kaiser finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
With the win, the Thunder improve to 4-0 on the season including 2-0 in Prairie Conference play.
LPGE will host Osakis on Dec. 15.
