Eastview's Joey King

When a team full of talented guards takes on a team with several quality bigs what is usually the end result? The Breakdown has looked over tape after tape to find the answer and the winners are usually the guards. However, Eastview is a whole different physical animal led by Joey King and it wasn’t that long ago that these teams met at the Sweet 16 and King hit a game winning trey for the victory.

King kicked off his senior year with 35 points in an opening win over Edina. King, Jordan Bulgar, Sam Burt, and Ben Oberfeld are a physical bunch who should dominate the glass and physically bounce penetration away from the cup. They will force Sanjay Lumpkin to work with Joseph Gill up front to fend off the Lightning size.

In the back court, Eastview’s Darin Haugh is one of the tougher guards in the metro. However, one man won’t be able to slow down the sharp shooting of Creighton-signed Isaiah Zierden, the athletic ability of Sanjay Lumpkin (Northwestern-signed), the craft of Will Dunn (IPFW-signed), and the quicks of Isaiah Gray.

With four D1 signed players, another player or two who could be D1 in the future, and a handful of others who will play in the NSIC or MIAC someday, the Eastview vs. Benilde-St. Margaret’s contest will be one of the top destination of college coaches.
