Tigers' stellar defense locks down on Bears in second half

The Browerville Tigers boys’ basketball team traveled to Bertha-Hewitt last Friday night for their first game of the season.

The boys came out offensively strong in the first half and defensively strong in the second half to finish off the Bears 68-43.

Senior Seth Kellen got things going with the first five points for the Tigers including a three-pointer.

Max Goligowski came off the bench and immediately made his presence known by connecting on a three-pointer to tie things up at 14 early in the first half.

Bertha-Hewitt took a brief lead until Mitch Heid connected on a three-pointer to give the Tigers a 20-19 lead.

In the final ten minutes of the half, Browerville outscored Bertha-Hewitt by nine to take a 10 point lead going into the half.

The inside game for the Tigers proved to be too much for the Bears in the first half as Seth Christensen and Connor Burns combined for 22 of the team’s 41 points.

The second half saw Browerville’s defense shut down the Bears. After Bertha-Hewitt scored an early basket in the half, the Tigers shut down the Bears for a 13 minute stretch.

Browerville’s defensive control and domination on the boards allowed them to open up a 30 point lead.

Browerville’s inside men led the team as Christensen finished with 20 points. Burns chipped in 12.

Kellen and Goligowski added nine and eight points.

The Tigers outrebounded the Bears 38-20. Heid led the way with 10 rebounds. He also dished out seven assists on the night.

The Tigers will return to the court on Thursday when they travel to Barrett to take on West Central Area for their first conference game.
