Tuesday night was unforgettable for the St. Paul Central boys' basketball team — especially for one of the 10 seniors listed on its varsity roster.

Not only did a 67-39 victory over St. Paul Johnson wrap up a perfect 12-0 league season for the Minutemen (19-6, 12-0) in St. Paul City Conference play, senior Dion Ford’s final basket of the night helped him reach the 1,000-point milestone for his career.

Many in the crowd knew the points threshold was close, so they chanted for one more basket with St. Paul Central leading by double-digits in the second half.

"Only the greatest can get it, so I'm really proud," said Ford, whose 18 points against the Governors was a game-high.

First Report

It was a memorable night for Dion Ford and his teammates as St. Paul Central wrapped up St. Paul City Conference play Tuesday with a 67-39 victory over visiting St. Paul Johnson.

Ford scored a game-high 18 points for the Minutemen, with his final basket allowing him to record his 1,000th career point.

After finishing in second place in the conference standings last season, Central (19-6, 12-0) claimed this year’s St. Paul City title with a perfect league record.

Although it was a slow start on offense during the game's first 10 minutes, the Minutemen led the entire time, and they eventually marched to an overwhelming 42-12 halftime lead.

Aside from Ford's production, Central’s Daveonte Davis tallied 15 points.

Brandon St. Julien put up 15 points for the Governors (13-10, 7-4), who are fighting to tie St. Paul Harding for second place in the conference standings with one game remaining.
