The Mr. Basketball Committee has announced its 10 semifinalists for this year’s Minnesota Mr. Basketball award.

They are: David Roddy of Breck; Matthew Hurt of Rochester John Marshall; DeLaSalle’s Jamison Battle and Tyrell Terry; Jaeden King of Cretin-Derham Hall; Isaac Fink of Springfield; Antwan Kimmons of Tartan; Jack Middleton of Edina; Zeke Nnaji of Hopkins; and Tyler Wahl of Lakeville North.

Roddy, the state’s No. 2 overall scorer this season with 588 points, has Breck competing for the Independent Metro Athletic Conference crown. Committed to Colorado State, Roddy has produced 29.4 points per game, which is third in the state. The 6-foot-5 forward has also been a key rebounder, averaging 17 boards per game.

Hurt has paced the state in scoring season, putting up 36.9 ppg and 665 total points. A 6-foot-9 forward, Hurt has amassed over 3,000 career points for the Rockets. The state's top college recruit does more than drain baskets, too, as he averages 4.4 assists, 2.4 steals and 2.2 blocks per game.

The Mr. Basketball list will be trimmed to five finalists, who will be selected the week of March 4. The finalists will be honored at a Minnesota Timberwolves game at the Target Center in Minneapolis on March 26, where the winner will be announced.

Last year’s winner was Apple Valley’s Tre Jones, a 6-foot-2 guard who now plays for Duke. Tre’s older brother, Tyus, who’s also 6-2 and played for the Blue Devils, is a point guard on the Timberwolves’ roster and won the award in 2014.

Similar to the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association's McDonald Award, which also recently announced its list of semifinalists, Minnesota Mr. Basketball is given to the state's top senior player. The winner is selected by a committee of longtime basketball supporters.
