Feb. 5: Despite 24 points from star David Roddy, the Mustangs scored their second-lowest point total of the season. To even the score, they'll have to keep pace or contain a trio of potent Lions' scorers.

We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.

Editor's note: With school districts postponing games due to weather, some of the games we selected to highlight will not be played as scheduled.

Other games to keep an eye on

Fertile-Beltrami vs. Ada-Borup, 4:30 p.m., Feb 8. Fertile-Beltrami (13-5, 6-0) carries a chip into this game between Pine to Prairie Conference North and South division leaders. Ada-Borup (13-0, 4-0) ended the Falcons' season in the Class 1A, Section 8 playoffs last year and has won eight of the past 10 meetings between the teams.

Minnehaha Academy at Caledonia, 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 8. With a victory on Thursday, No. 10-2A Caledonia (15-4, 5-0) can take a seven-game winning streak into a 2018 Class 2A state title game rematch against the defending champion Redhawks (13-2, 2-0), who have been No. 1-2A all season long.

White Bear Lake at Edina, 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5. Even when No. 9-4A Edina (10-7, 1-2) isn't playing another ranked Class 4A team, it seems to be going up against a difficult opponent, such as White Bear Lake (15-3, 7-2), which — despite its success — hasn't been able to crack the top-10 rankings.
