First report

With six of the past seven meetings between Eden Prairie and Lakeville North decided by single digits, it’s hardly surprising that Friday’s matchup was another nail-biter. But after losing their past four to the Panthers, the Eagles came away with a big road victory, 66-62, at Lakeville North High School.

Eden Prairie (5-2) fell behind 6-0 early, but the Eagles went on a roll and led 36-23 at halftime. Junior forward John Henry was an offensive catalyst all evening, tallying 19 points, including three 3-pointers in the first half.

The Panthers, ranked No. 7 in Class 4A by Minnesota Basketball News, came out of the half with vengeance and eventually regained the lead. Much of the comeback was thanks to senior forward Jack Rusch. After going scoreless in the opening half, Rusch exploded for 18 points and had eight rebounds for Lakeville North (3-3).

Though the No. 4-4A Eagles struggled to score early in the second half, they responded when it counted. Junior guard Drake Dobbs came through with 13 second-half points and finished with a team-high 20 points.

Junior forward Connor Christenson helped finish off the win as he went 7-for-8 from the free-throw line in the second half to finish with 11 points.
