First report

It took JaVonni Bickham’s layup on one knee to put a little life into a stagnant Minnehaha Academy team Wednesday at Target Center.

Bickham’s fortunate basket ignited an 11-0 run late in the first half, propelling the No. 2-ranked Redhawks to a 65-45 victory over Jordan in the Class 2A quarterfinals.

Not even a thunderous throwdown by Jordan senior forward Eric Tiedman midway through the first half that tied it at 13-all brought any life to the lackadaisical Redhawks (26-4). Tiedman had a game-high 20 points for the Hubmen (25-6). Bickham’s layup came five minutes later.

The Redhawks were content on shooting three-pointers up to that point. They led 28-19 at halftime, while going 2-for-17 from beyond the arc.

They finally started to work the ball inside-out in the second half. It led to a 24-6 run, putting the Redhawks in control, 52-25.

Sophomore guard Jalen Suggs led the Redhawks with 19 points, making one of seven from three-point range and six-for-11 from the free-throw line. Freshman forward 6-10 Chet Holmgren added 14 points.

Check back later for more on the game.
