From a news release:

Tim Dittberner announced today his decision to resign as head boys’ basketball coach of the New Prague Trojans. New Prague finished fourth at this year’s state tournament after they upset #1 seeded and defending state champion St. Paul Johnson in the first round.

Dittberner replaced Jeff Gravon, who passed away from cancer during the middle of the 2009 season, and led the Trojans two months later to the state tournament. New Prague’s overall record the past four years is 86-33.

Dittberner said, “This decision is based on what is best for me professionally, and more importantly, for my family. I do not want to miss the opportunity to see my daughter, Annie, play basketball her last two years of high school. I have enjoyed my time of being the head coach of New Prague boys’ basketball. The support from the high school and district administration has been outstanding. I will truly miss working with the wonderful players, parents, and coaches in the New Prague boys’ basketball program."

Dittberner has had five teams qualify for the state boys’ basketball tournament in his eighteen years as head coach. His Le Sueur teams made the state field in 1985, 1986, and 1988. The 1986 team won the state championship and the 1988 was the consolation champion.

He coached Le Sueur from 1983-1988, South St. Paul 1989-1997, and New Prague 2009-2011. Dittberner’s overall coaching record is 242-200. Dittberner is New Prague’s middle school principal.
