Buffalo fails to hold big lead, falls to Big Lake

BIG LAKE 63, BUFFALO 58 (OT): Big Lake trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half and found itself down by eight at halftime, but stormed back for an upset overtime victory over Mississippi 8 Conference-leading Buffalo. Hornets senior forward Brian Larson made seven three-pointers in the game and scored 19 of his game- and season-high 31 points after the half. Senior guard Josh High led Buffalo with 21 points.

MAPLE GROVE 76, COON RAPIDS 72: It was a tale of two halves as the Crimson and the Cardinals each put up 45 points in a half — just not the same one. Maple Grove jumped out to a 45-27 halftime lead but needed to hold on in the face of a second-half Coon Rapids comeback. Forward Omot Okwan led the scoring with his season-high 26 points for Coon Rapids, while sophomore guard Brycen Wojta scored 16 points for Maple Grove.

STILLWATER 41, CRETIN-DERHAM HALL 40: Matt Hilgers’ basket in the waning seconds of regulation lifted Stillwater. Cretin missed a potential game-winning basket at the buzzer, dropping one-half game behind Suburban East-leading Roseville for the conference lead.

HOPKINS 82, EDINA 63: Hopkins, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, ended up with a comfortable victory, but it didn’t come easy. Edina led early in the first half before the Royals cranked up the pressure and turned a seven-point deficit into a 10-point lead at 39-29. The Hornets refused to go away quietly, however, battling back to within three points with 11 minutes remaining, but could not inch any closer. Zach Stahl had 18 points and Marvin Singleton and Joe Coleman 17 each for Hopkins, while Philip DeBerg’s 19 points led Edina.

SPRING LAKE PARK 68, FRIDLEY 55: Spring Lake Park awoke from a first-half slumber by putting up 50 points in the second half, thanks largely to a full-court press. The rally erased a 28-18 halftime deficit. Bryce Williams and Sean Scott led the way for Spring Lake Park with 22 and 20 points, respectively.

HILL-MURRAY 51, RICHFIELD 50: Forward Jim Remke made one of two free throws with 20 seconds left in the game to keep the Pioneers undefeated in the Classic Suburban. Rob Baul led the Pioneers with 19 points. Remke finished with  17 points and eight rebounds.
