6-8 senior center keeps heating up

Pfefferle

Northfield's Otto Pfefferle seems to be getting stronger as the season winds down.

The 6-8 senior center turned in a dominant performance in a 76-59 victory over Faribault. Pfefferle scored 19 points and pulled down 27 rebounds in the nonconference victory.

He scored more than 20 points three times in the month of January. His previous high was 19 in the season opener against Rochester Century.

Here is a closer look at Pfefferle:

Best movie I've seen in the past year: "Inception" for sure.

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ... "I'm Me" by Lil' Wayne; "Up Up And Away" by Kid Cudi; "And We Danced" by Macklemore.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me: Goofy, fun, hard-working.

Favorite pregame meal: Mashed potatoes or mac and cheese.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? By working on my homework with other people in study groups, and using study halls to actually study.

How did you get started in sports? I've played basketball forever. I started track and played football in middle school. Then I played football again this year for the first time in high school.

Who is your school's biggest rival, and why? Faribault. I'm not sure why, it's just a Northfield thing I guess.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... extremely nervous, but very excited.

To get focused for competition, I ... take a nap and visualize what I need to do.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Playing football for the first time this fall and helping the team make it to the [Class 4A] state tournament.

What did you work on in the offseason? Basketball and high-jumping.

What are your goals for the 2010-11 school year as an athlete? To play hard, and have a lot of fun with my teammates in the process.

I know I have an edge on an opponent when ... I have the ball and he's behind me in the post.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? Maybe cool announcers at sporting events.

When you have time off during vacation, what do you like to do? Go body boarding or play basketball outside in the sun.

In 10 years, I hope I'm ... seeing the world and not stuck in a dead-end job.

Do you have a secret talent – and if so, what is it? I'm really good at climbing stuff, like trees.

Who is your favorite college or pro sports team and why? The Twins because they're amazing and it would be bad if I said the Packers.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? "Keep your feet under you." – Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson.
