Division I prospect will miss fourth game Friday night

Kyle Bauman

United South Central junior forward Kyle Bauman, one of the top 10 prospects in Minnesota’s high school class of 2012, is currently sidelined with mononucleosis.

The Rebels (9-6) are hopeful that the 6-foot-8 Bauman will be back in uniform for Monday night’s game at Belle Plaine (8-8). He is already on the radar of a number of Division I programs.

Without his presence in the lineup on Thursday night, the Rebels were handled easily by Class 2A, No. 2 Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 70-29.

It was the third game Bauman missed since being diagnosed with the illness on Jan. 25. He will also miss tonight’s game at Blooming Prairie.

“It has really made us adjust as he was our leading scorer and rebounder,” United South Central coach Rob Stevermer said. “Not only has he been out, but our second-leading scorer and rebounder (Riley Niebuhr) has been out with mono since Jan. 14. We went from having our strength be our inside play, to being much more dependent on our perimeter game.”
