While the cold and snow postponed a slew basketball games, several players showed some heat on the hardwood Tuesday night.

Triton senior guard Logan Spitzack scored 60 points in an 88-76 overtime loss to Cannon Falls. He made 24 of 47 field goal attempts, a record number of attempts according to the Minnesota State High School League [MSHSL] website. The 60 points places him in a tie for seventh for single game scoring, also according to the MSHSL website.

Triton coach Jason Boe said, “He’s a consistent scorer but hasn’t had an explosion like this in the past.”

Spitzack, who averages 23.6 points per game, was forced to take a larger-than-normal role in the offense as injuries and illness limited Triton to just seven available players.

Fouls played a large role in the outcome as three Triton players fouled out in overtime, forcing them to finish the game with just four players.

Elsewhere, Columbia Heights’ Zach Lofton, who is accustomed to big scoring performances, put on a show Tuesday in the Hylanders’ 92-78 victory over Minneapolis Washburn. Lofton scored a career-high 53 points, the sixth time this season he’s scored 40 or more points in a game.
