Tyus Jones returns but Apple Valley falls short

LAKEVILLE NORTH 83, APPLE VALLEY 70: Freshman phenom Tyus Jones returned to the Eagles lineup, but it was the Panthers who pulled off the biggest surprise. Lakeville North started the second half with a 17-0 run, overcoming a 10-point halftime deficit to beat Apple Valley on Tuesday night in South Suburban Conference play in Lakeville. Senior forward Adam Petterson led Lakeville North with 24 points.  Apple Valley built a 42-32 halftime lead behind 15 points from Tom Schalk and 10 from Jones, who didn’t score in the second half. Jones missed 13 games after suffering a lacerated kidney against St. Louis Park in the season opener. Schalk finished with a game-high 25 points.

BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY 65, BLOOMINGTON JEFFERSON 59: Cullen Russo’s basket with 30 seconds remaining broke a tie, and lifted the Eagles over the crosstown-rival Jaguars in South Suburban play. Russo led all scorers with 25 points. The Jaguars were led by Marcus Alipate’s 24 points.

COLUMBIA HEIGHTS 92, CHISAGO LAKES 62: The Hylanders clamped on a press up six with six minutes left, and closed the game with a 26-2 run in beating the Wildcats in the North Suburban. Columbia Heights senior guard Zach Lofton scored 43 points.

EASTVIEW 59, LAKEVILLE SOUTH 43: The Class 4A No. 6 Lightning limited the No. 3 Cougars to 18 first-half points while building an 11-point lead, and cruised to the South Suburban victory. Senior forward Frank Veldman paced four Eastview players in double figures with 18 points.

EDINA 73, MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN 71 (OT): Brendan Canova’s leaner as time expired in overtime lifted the Hornets over the Class 3A, No. 5 Millers in nonconference play. Marley Allison made seven three-pointers and led the Hornets with 25 points. The millers’ Clarence Thomas led all scorers with 26 points.

IRONDALE 79, TOTINO-GRACE 78: Senior forward Bryan Sprang scored 33 points, including a shot from the lane with 1 second left, lifting the Knights over the Eagles in the North Suburban. Senior center Ben Meyer gave the Eagles a 78-77 lead after scoring off a rebound with 9 seconds remaining. Meyer finished with 26 points. Totino-Grace senior guard Alex Kreuser also scored 33 points.

OSSEO 91, SPRING LAKE PARK 60: The Class 4A, No. 2 Orioles responded from their loss to Hopkins in orderly fashion. Senior forward Joey Sonnenfeld scored 19 points, pacing five Osseo players in double figures in the nonconference win over the Panthers.

ROSEVILLE 84, WOODBURY 77 (OT): Lucas Brown had six points in overtime, giving him 30 on the night, as the Raiders outlasted the Royals in the Suburban East. Woodbury’s Connor McKeen sent the game into overtime with a basket at the buzzer,

SIBLEY EAST 47, JORDAN 46: Junior Kyle Goetsch made a layup with 2 seconds left, giving the Wolverines a victory over the Hubmen in the Minnesota River. Jordan took a one-point lead four second earlier on Micah Hennen’s two free throws. Senior guard Tanner Oakes had a game-high 25 points for the Hubmen.
