Eagan buzzer-beater ends heated game against Apple Valley

EAGAN 61, APPLE VALLEY 59: The Wildcats’ Matt Hentges tipped in a missed shot by Ben Sicoli at the buzzer, giving Eagan a thrilling victory over the Eagles in a South Suburban matchup. The Wildcats led the entire game, but Apple Valley senior forward Tom Schalk hit a jumper with 45 seconds left, tying it at 59 and setting up the final second dramatics. Hentges and Sicoli finished with 10 and nine points, respectively. Schalk had a game-high 19 points.

BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY 50, PRIOR LAKE 48: Keeping up with the South Suburban trend, junior guard Darrien Johnson scored on a layup at the buzzer, giving the Eagles a victory over the Lakers. Johnson finished with 10 points.

COOPER 89, COLUMBIA HEIGHTS 82: Down 15-2 early, the Hawks battled back behind Handful Pour’s 26 points and Raheem Tyner’s 24 points and 14 rebounds to beat the Hylanders in the North Suburban.  Cooper’s duo was able to offset a 47-point night from Columbia Heights’ Zach Lofton.

FARMINGTON 44, HOLY ANGELS 43: With time running out, senior guard Sebren Baer banked in the winning shot from in the lane as the Tigers edged the Stars in Missota action. Baer finished with 8 points. Holy Angels senior Damon Woods led all scorers with 17 points.

ST. PAUL HIGHLAND PARK 97, MINNEAPOLIS EDISON 77: The Scots jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead, and maintained that cushion throughout the second half in beating the Tommies in nonconference play. The Scots had three players eclipse 20 points – Djon Bradley (26), Darrell Hill (23) and Ty’shaun Williams (23).

SPRING LAKE PARK 75, CHISAGO LAKES 66: Wildcats forward Benj Figini, one of the metro’s top scorers, poured in a game-high 36 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Panthers’ scoring duo of the Panthers of Bryce Williams and Sean Scott. Williams (30 points) and Scott (29 points) combined for 59 points in the North Suburban win.
