A glance at weeked basketball action from Greater Minnesota

Thursday, December 9

Yellow Medicine East 62, Lac qui Parle Valley 59: Senior guard Taylor Olson won the West Central Conference South Division match-up with a steal and a layup with less than a minute to play. Olson finished with 19 points, five rebounds and seven assists.

Redwood Valley 61, BOLD 60: Sophomore Michael Busack's three-pointer with 12 seconds left proved to be the winning basket. Just to be sure, Busack blocked a BOLD layup with one second remaining to wrap up the win for the Cardinals. He led led all scorers with 21 points.

Friday, December 10

Lakeview Christian 86, Legacy Christian 80: Guard Anders Broman scored more than half of Lakeview Christian’s points Friday. His game-leading 47 points might seem like a lot, but to Broman, it’s just another day on the court. Broman scored 901 points in 28 games last year, averaging just over 32 points per game. At this pace, he could surpass the current state scoring record set last year by Kevin Noreen. Broman, a 6-foot-1 guard from Duluth, is on pace to shatter Noreen’s record of 4,086 points.  Broman, a 6’1” shooting guard from Duluth, is currently 472 points ahead of Noreen’s pace. In Lakeview Christian’s three games so far this season, Broman is averaging 41 points per game.

Stewartville 53, Lake City 52: Stewartville rallied from a four-point deficit with 18 seconds left to win. Seniors Trevor Dale and Brandon Larsen sealed the win for Stewartville. Dale sunk all three free throws after getting fouled on a three-pointer and Larsen made the winning basket after a Stewartville steal with two seconds left. Dale finished with a team-high 16 points.

Caledonia 64, St. Charles 29: Caledonia coach Josh Diersen won his 100th career game on Friday. Senior center Ethan Lapham finished with 16 points and nine rebounds in the game.

Maple River Invitational

Byron 56, LeSueur-Henderson 27: Byron was led by senior Evan Morris with 19 points. Morris hit three three-pointers on the night.

Maple River 58, Kenyon-Wanamingo 56: Maple River, ranked no. 9 in the state in Class 2A, snuck past upset-minded Kenyon-Wanamingo.

The championship game was postponed due to bad weather. The two teams will meet for the championship game at a later date.
