Class 3A Championship

No. 1 DeLaSalle (23-4) vs. No. 3 Fergus Falls (28-3), 5 p.m., Target Center

Why DeLaSalle will win: Defense. Coach Dave Thorson is known for strong defensive teams, and this one is no different. The Islanders’ trademark man-to-man look held opponents to 51.7 points per game this season. Goanar Mar, a 6-7 junior, can defend every position on the floor at a high level.

Why Fergus Falls will win: Outside shooting. Sophomore Nathan Rund went 4-for-7 from three-point range in the semifinal against Red Wing. Rund averaged 16.2 points in the regular season, leading Fergus Falls to its best offensive season in school history. He has been even better so far in the playoffs.

Keys to watch: Fergus Falls loses the size matchup to DeLaSalle, and the Otters were outrebounded 33-21 in the victory against Red Wing. Fergus Falls has won before when losing the rebounding battle, but it must find a way to limit second-chance points against the Islanders.
