The Dutchmen have been having successful seasons as of late & this one looks good on paper early as well. Ryan Dusha (202-106) begins this 12th season as head coach at Melrose HS.

Six of the top nine from last season return from last year’s 19-10 West Central North and Sub-Section 6AA North champs. The experience returning provides Coach Dusha with an excellent defensive squad. Offensively 3 of the top 4 scorers graduated, so this will need to be replenished by the returnees.

Tyler Braegelmann, a 6’3 JR, is the only double figure scoring player that is back. He’ll be asked to step up and be a spark for the squad. Cesar Cervantes 5’11 SR PG will be the quarterback and run the show. Both of these guys were named to the all-conference squads last season. 

Colton Meyer is another who’ll be asked to bring his game stats up more so that the team can have success. Other kids with the same to be asked of them are 3 seniors who played quite a bit: Blake Gerads, Anthony Welle, & Isaac Herkenoff.

West Central Conference favorites early are Morris and Sauk Centre. Section 6AA favorites are even more plentiful with squads such as Eden Valley-Watkins, Litchfield, New London-Spicer, & Long Prairie-Grey Eagle all capable. Melrose hopes to be in with these groups too.
