Rushford-Peterson coach Tom Vix knew he could have something special. That is, in 2014.

His young squad, with just one senior in his top seven players, has exceeded expectations all season. It was no different Thursday in a 72-54 victory Thursday against the run-and-gun Lions (20-11).

Junior forward Seth Thompson scored 19 points to lead the way for the seventh-rated Trojans (27-3), who used an 11-0 run in the first half to build a 12-point advantage and never looked back. Teammates junior forward Jorli Hauge (18 points) and sophomore guard Charlie Krambeer (14 points) were also in double digits.

“We were hoping we would be able to make it back to state,” said Thompson, who was a reserve on the last year’s Trojans squad that finished third in the state tournament. “We are so young, and small. We knew it was going to be a tough road. For us to be here and have 27 wins, I think that exceeds expectations.”

Lakeview Christian senior guard Anders Broman, the state’s all-time leading scorer, scored a game-high 34 points. He concluded his prep career with 5,119 points.

“That was a tough 34 points,” Vix said. “I thought we played all aspects of the game well, especially defensively.”

Three Stars

1. Anders Broman, Lakeview Christian Academy
Rushford-Peterson did all they could to bottle up the state's all time leading scorer. The best they could do was to hold him to 34 points in what ended up being the final game of Anders Broman's high school career. His final total points was 1,345 points this season and 5,119 points in his high school career. He will continue his career next fall at South Dakota State University.

2. Seth Thompson, Rushford-Peterson
Scoring 13 of his 19 points in the first half, Thompson was the leading scorer for R-P. He also was Anders Broman's shadow on defense for much of the day and was able to keep him in check enough for his team to be victorious.

3. Jorli Hauge, Rushford-Peterson
The closest thing incredibly balanced Rushford-Peterson team has to a true post player, Hauge was able to score both inside and outside. He was also a big part of frustrating the LCA offense on the inside. Hauge finished with 18 points and 8 rebounds.
