Packers rein in Hornets and Woodward

When Austin and Edina tipped off late in the Breakdown Tip Off Classic, there were more rainbows than in an April sunshower. The two teams put on a three-point shooting clinic in the first half before settling in to a 66-62 Austin victory at Minnetonka High School.

Austin came out firing on all cylinders in the opening four minutes, opening up a 17-4 lead on the shocked Hornets. Joe Aase knocked down seven of them himself, including a rare four-point play.

But Edina didn't go away -- particularly Hornets' point guard Graham Woodward. The elusive senior darted and dashed his way through the Packers' defense, creating space for himself. Woodward drained five first-half three-pointers with great elevation, starting a 19-6 Edina run that tied the score at 23-all.

At the half, Woodward had 17 points and Joe Aase had 14 for Austin, which held a 35-31 lead.

The teams traded hoops the rest of the game, with Aase (22 points), Zach Wessels (15) and Collin Weisert (12) finding range for Austin and Woodward continuing his onslaught for the Hornets. Woodward finished with a game-high 24 points, but seven in the second half. Big Reggie Lynch aded 14 points for the Hornets.
