Tyler Flack

Lakeville North boys' basketball player Tyler Flack might have missed the start of the season because of a broken wrist, but he has made up for lost time.

The senior forward helped the Panthers earn a share of the South Suburban Conference championship with Eastview. He is averaging nearly 15 points per game for the 25-1 squad.

Here is a closer look at Flack:

The best movie I've seen in the last year? "Moneyball."

The songs I never skip on my iPod are ... "Lose Yourself" by Eminem and "Headlines" by Drake.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Happy, funny, athletic.

How did you get started playing basketball? I went to summer camps when I was younger and I started playing club basketball in fourth grade.

At my first varsity practice, I ... was excited for the season to start.

What is your favorite meal before a game? A Subway BMT!

What did you work on prior to the season? Last offseason I worked on improving overall, but focused on my outside game. I also travelled around the country playing AAU ball. This upcoming offseason, I will start training with my team at the University of South Dakota.

What were your goals prior to the season? Win the South Suburban Conference, win Section 1 and win a state championship.

To get focused for a game, I ... listen to music, think about the things I need to improve and visualize the game in my head.

I know I have an edge on an opponent when ... I beat them right away on the jump ball and during the game when I can see the frustration on their face.

Who is your school's biggest rival, and why? Lakeville South. A lot of the kids know each other and some of us went to middle school together, so it's fun to compete and see who the better team is in Lakeville, which everyone knows is always North.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? My first dunk in a game in ninth grade. Also, when my teammate Grant Erickson made a fading layup with two seconds left to beat No. 1-ranked Eastview this year.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? I think especially at the very large high schools it would be great to see more kids get the chance to play and compete.

Do you have a secret talent -- and if so, what is it? I have a couple, but don't think I should publish them.

Who is your favorite college or pro sports team and why? The Miami Heat. I have always been a fan of D-Wade [Dwyane Wade] and now that LeBron [James] is there, they're even more fun to watch.

In 10 years, I hope I'm ... playing basketball or in a career related to basketball or sports. If that doesn't work out, I enjoy math and science and I'm sure I will find something rewarding in that area.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? "Never give up, failure and rejection are only the first step to succeeding."
