There will be a new name added to the Class 1A boys basketball championship game record book.
Dawson-Boyd, which hasn’t been to the state tournament since 1991 and has never played in a title game, earned its chance to compete for the championship on Friday after defeating Red Lake County 80-66 in the semifinals.
Dawson-Boyd will play defending 1A champion and top seed Cherry for the title Saturday at 11 a.m. at Williams Arena.

Cherry trailed by a point at halftime of its state tournament semifinal game against Nevis on Friday, but in the second half, responded with vigor to regain a lead it would not relinquish, securing a 79-70 victory and spot in the Class 1A boys basketball title game for a second consecutive year.
Cherry, the top seed in the 1A bracket and defending state champion, will face the winner of Dawson-Boyd or Red Lake County semifinal in the state championship Saturday at 11 a.m. at Williams Arena.
