Friday's boys' basketball roundup: Hopkins hands Wayzata first loss of season

• HOPKINS 63, WAYZATA 54: The Class 4A, No. 2 Royals brought the No. 4 Trojans' unblemished season to an end Friday night. Senior forward Zach Stahl paced a balanced Hopkins attack with 14 points, leading four Royals players in double figures. Wayzata junior forward Zach Robertson led all scorers with 18 points. The Royals led 31-23 at halftime.

• APPLE VALLEY 71, PRIOR LAKE 70: The Eagles took the Tyus Jones show on the road, slipping past the Lakers in South Suburban play. The sophomore guard scored a game-high 36 points, Jones' eighth game of 30 points or more this season. Fellow sophomore Jon Sobaski led the Lakers with 22 points in the loss. Dustin Fronk added 18 points for Apple Valley, the No. 5 team in Class 4A.

• EASTVIEW 52, EAGAN 49: The Lightning, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, survived a scare from neighboring Eagan. The Wildcats led 23-21 at halftime in the South Suburban matchup. It was Eastview's closest game of the year.

• TOTINO-GRACE 90, ST. FRANCIS 59: Senior guard Sam Meyer erupted for 47 points, leading the Eagles past the Saints in the North Suburban. The Eagles jumped out to a 21-point halftime lead behind Meyer, who scored 34 points in the first half. He was 9-for-10 from three-point range in the first half, and finished 12-for-13 from beyond the arc. Totino-Grace led 52-32 at halftime.

• WHITE BEAR LAKE 99, STILLWATER 90 (2 OT):The Ponies overcame an 11-point halftime deficit to force overtime, but the Bears pulled away in the second extra session to win the high-scoring affair. The Bears had five players score in double figures, led by junior forward Beau Smit's season-high 32. Senior Hamish Abbott led the Ponies with 25 points.
