East Ridge came into Friday night’s matchup against White Bear Lake with a perfect 11-0 record in Suburban East Conference play.

The Bears had come the closest to handing the Raptors a conference loss this season, as East Ridge defeated White Bear Lake 65-60 on Jan. 3.

White Bear Lake led 35-30 at halftime on Friday, but a strong second half performance from the Raptors kept their conference record unblemished as they picked up a 75-63 win at East Ridge High School.

“We went into halftime not thrilled with our effort,” East Ridge coach Josh Peltier said. “I’m proud of how we responded in the second half. We really came out and led with our effort and I think we got stops and the offense came from there.”

The Raptors took over in the second half, led by an onslaught of threes by Alex Mattes and Cedric Tomes. The two guards combined to score 41 points to help outscore the Bears by 17 in the second half.

Despite the loss, the Bears got great efforts by Jack Janicki and Wyatt Hawks. Janicki filled up the stat sheet, finishing with 16 points, five rebounds, six assists, five steals and three blocks. Hawks put up a double-double of 21 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
