Delano led Holy Family Catholic 23-10 with 6:02 left in the first half during Friday night’s game.

The Tigers had patiently attacked the Fire’s 3-2 zone to get open looks from deep. Even when they didn’t go in, the Tigers were able to consistently grab long offensive rebounds.

Holy Family head coach Joe Burger called a timeout to switch up the game plan. The Fire started playing man-to-man defense.

That change made a massive difference, as Holy Family outscored Delano 56-20 in the final 24:02 of game time to come away with a 66-43 victory.

First Report

Holy Family Catholic overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to cruise to a 66-43 victory over Wright County East Conference-foe Delano on Friday night.

The Tigers (13-6, 2-2) frustrated the Fire with long offensive possessions early on, which resulted in good looks for the Tigers and quick shots for the Fire. The Tigers largest lead was 13, but the fire cut it down to seven to go into halftime trailing 28-21.

The Fire (15-2, 4-0) ambushed the Tigers to start the second half on a 13-2 run. It was a sign of things to come, as they outscored the Tigers by 30 in the second half to win by more than 20 points.

Boden Kapke led the way for the Fire, as he had a game-high 21 points and added eights rebounds. His frontcourt partner Collin Mulholland finished with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds while adding a game-high five blocks.

The Tigers relied on Will Strandemo for scoring, as he led them with 15 points. He rounded out his stat line with three rebounds, three assists and a block and steal apiece. Jackson Stewart provided key minutes down low, as he battled with Kapke all game. Stewart finished with 11 points and five rebounds.
