Having a record with only two losses is a great place to be for a high school basketball team that is 15 games into a season.

Tartan kept its loss total at two and added to its number of victories with a 59-53 victory Wednesday over visiting Mahtomedi with just 11 games remaining on the regular-season schedule.

Both defenses controlled play in the Metro East Conference matchup, with the Titans (13-2, 7-1) breaking a 14-14 tie midway through the first half to lead 31-21 at halftime. The Zephyrs (10-5, 5-3) cut the deficit to four points in the second half but could not climb any closer.
