Jack Harrison

Senior Jack Harrison has his sights set on a state tournament trip in his final year on the Prior Lake boys' basketball team.

In order to accomplish that feat, the Lakers will have to make a significant turnaround from a year ago when they finished 6-21. Their last state tournament appearance came in 1978, when they won the second of their back-to-back Class 2A crowns.

Here is a closer look at Harrison.

The best movie I've seen in the last year? I have to go with "Bridesmaids." It totally caught me off guard!

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ... "Lose Yourself" by Eminem; "You're Never Over" by Eminem; "Remember My Name" by Maino.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Funny; nice; team guy.

How did you get started playing basketball? I started playing basketball when I was 3. My parents said I needed to get my energy out some way.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... confident. I wanted to prove I belonged with everyone else.

How do you balance school and athletics? School has to come first, so I do my homework before or after practice. Then on game days, I do it before games. It always gets done!

What is your favorite meal before a game? I like to get a foot-long sub. I eat six inches before and the rest after the game.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? When we beat Waconia (60-57) in 2010-2011, a year after they crushed us (85-44). The game was decided in the last few seconds and I took a charge to seal the deal.

What are your goals for the 2011-2012 season? My goals are not only to win our first section game in over 10 years, but to make it to state. I feel we have a great shot of doing that.

What did you work on in the offseason? I spent most of my time lifting weights, trying to become a knockdown shooter and a more versatile defender.

To get focused for a game, I ... start off the night before a game, and I visualize the game. Then at halftime of the JV game I go in the locker room and separate myself from everyone to get my mind clear.

I know I have an edge on an opponent when ... they start blaming each other and their coach. I love when this happens!

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? Coaches can coach for more hours during the offseason.

When you have time off during vacation, what do you like to do? I love to relax and get a real nice tan, and swim in the ocean.

Who is your favorite college or pro sports team and why? The Minnesota Vikings. I know they aren't having the greatest year, but I'm a fan through thick and thin. I also really hope they don't leave.

In 10 years, I hope I ... have a really fun job and am able to provide for my family.

Do you have a secret talent - and if so, what is it? I'm able to sneeze on command, and make anyone smile.
