Defending its section title Thursday night proved as difficult for Richfield as last year’s drought-busting victory.

Once again, standout Richfield guard Lamar Grayson sat in the locker room at halftime facing a deficit.

Once again, Grayson’s Spartans emerged victorious. This time, behind a flurry of acrobatic layups and clutch free throws, Richfield held off top-seeded South St. Paul 93-90 at South St. Paul High School in the Class 3A, Section 3 championship game.
