We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.
Park Center vs. Minnehaha Academy, 6 p.m., Friday, Jan. 3. No. 5-4A Park Center beat Prior Lake, but missed a chance to take on No. 3-3A Mankato East when its tournament game was canceled because of weather. The Pirates (6-1, 1-0) will instead face an even more difficult test against No. 1-3A Minnehaha Academy (6-2, 0-0).
Shakopee vs. Rosemount, 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 3. Shakopee worked its way up to No. 6 in the Class 4A rankings last week but has since lost twice. The Sabers (6-2, 1-0) will take on a Rosemount (5-2, 0-1) team that has also lost its last two games.
Waseca vs. Caledonia, 7:15 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 4. This No. 1 vs. No. 2 battle could be a Class 2A state tournament preview. No. 1-2A Waseca (6-2, 1-0), in its first season at Class 2A, is in Section 2, while No. 2-2A Caledonia's (8-0, 3-0) path to state goes through Section 1.
