It’s been something Tommy Jensen has done often in the past, so why not at a state tournament game? The Lakeville North senior guard showed of his long-range marksmanship, making five three-pointers, to spark the Panthers to a 73-48 victory over Eden Prairie.

Jensen, who set the school record for three-pointers in a season with 87, started the game Wednesday at Target Center by nailing his first attempt, helping Lakeville North get off to an 8-0 lead. Jensen hit two more before halftime, finished with five and had a team-high 23 points.

“This year, being my second time around, I really stressed in warmups getting my vision right,” Jensen said. “That was the biggest thing.”

“He’s done that all year long,” Lakeville North coach John Oxton. “He’s definitely got some confidence.”

It dovetails with what Oxton thinks is the best thing about his players. They may not always be pretty, but when the Panthers play with assurance, they’re tough to beat.

Behind the sharpshooting of senior guard Tommy Jensen and an interior defense that closed off the lane, No. 5 seeded Lakeville North defeated No. 4-seeded Eden Prairie 73-48. 

Jensen, who set a school record for three-pointers this season with 87, showed off that long-range accuracy with five treys Wednesday at Target Center. He made three in the game's opening minutes to help the Panthers open up a 19-7 lead. Jensen finished with a team-high 23 points.

Eden Prairie (20-10) was a different team than the one that outplayed Prior Lake in the Section 2 finals. The Eagles were outrebounded 44-31 and shot just 33.9 percent from the field. Drake Dobbs led Eden Prairie with 13 points.
