Waconia vs. Jordan

7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17

Jordan is moving to the Wright County Conference next season and gets an early look at one of its new league members when the Hubmen host Waconia on Tuesday.

Jordan coach Matt Urbanek's first challenge: Stopping No. 7-3A Waconia's sharpshooting 6-6 senior guard PJ Hayes.

"It will take a team effort and hard work," Urbanek said. "We'll have to get up on him and try to take away his perimeter shot. I don't think you can shut him down."

Hayes is averaging nearly 30 points per game in the Wildcats' 3-2 start that includes road losses to Class 4A Maple Grove (73-60 on Dec. 6) and No. 1-2A Waseca (88-66 on Dec. 10. Connor Schwob, a 6-5 senior, averages 14.2 points.

Jordan (2-1, 2-0) has a balanced attack led by senior Ryan Samuelson (13 ppg) and junior Reagan Koch (15.7 ppg). Symon Keiser, a senior, averages 10 points, and Bryce Sievers and Thomas Dietel provide depth.

Jordan reached the Class 2A, Section 2 championship game last season after playing in the state tournament two years ago. Urbanek is excited about the move to the new league but said he's savoring his time left in the Minnesota River Conference.

"The rivalries and relationships we've developed have meant a lot to us," Urbanek said. "We want to finish our time in the Minnesota River on a high note."
