DeLaSalle vs. Wayzata

7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13

Wayzata coach Bryan Schnettler believes his team has the depth of talent that most of his Minnesota peers would covet.

With three starters missing the first two games, and a number of athletes who played on the school's Class 6A Prep Bowl championship-winning football team having just a week of practice under their belts, that belief is being put to the test early this season.

Wayzata (0-2, 0-0) lost to Shakopee (82-63 on Dec. 5) and Eastview (98-82 on Dec. 7) to open the season, being down super sophomore Camden Heide (14.5 ppg last season), junior Eddie Beeninga and senior Jacob Wildermuth. Schnettler didn't specify Heide's injury but suggested the 6-6 guard would be in the lineup against DeLaSalle (3-0, 0-0).

Carter Bjerke, a 6-8 sophomore, and 6-foot junior Kody Williams have paced the No. 9-4A Trojans so far this season.

DeLaSalle, too, has been a little shorthanded to start the season. Jalen Travis, a 6-8 senior and the Islanders' top returning scorer, missed DeLaSalle's hard-fought 67-63 victory over No. 3-3A Mankato East at last weekend's Breakdown Tip Off Classic. The Islanders, who won last year's Class 3A state championship, already were in position to replace two 20-point-plus scorers lost to graduation (Tyrell Terry and Jamison Battle).

Cade Haskins, a 6-6 junior guard, leads the No. 2-3A Islanders with 20 points per game. Junior guard Keijuan White is averaging 13 points a game.
