One team is going to leave this game at the Lake Superior Classic in Duluth with an unfamiliar feeling, as BOLD and North Woods have just one loss between them.
North Woods’ lone blemish this season came in a 61-44 loss to No. 3-1A Cass Lake-Bena in a rematch of the 2018 state tournament semifinal on Dec. 1.
It’s the first meeting of these teams in this decade, and while North Woods (8-1, 1-0) has played in the last two state championship games, No. 4-1A BOLD (10-0, 4-0) is searching for its first state tourney berth. Bird Island-Lake Lillian won back-to-back Class 1A titles in 1980-81. Olivia made it to the state tournament in 1919.
This season, Gavin Vosika (18.7 ppg), Jordan Sagedahl (16.8 ppg) and Drew Sagedahl (14.7 ppg) lead BOLD, which opens the week with a Monday contest against Mayer Lutheran before tipping off against No. 5-1A North Woods.
The Grizzlies attack is led by Cade Goggleye (17.7 ppg), Trevor Morrison (13.0 ppg) and Ian Sherman (12.0 ppg).
