St. Paul Humboldt vs.

St. Paul Johnson

7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 2

After two seasons at the bottom of the St. Paul City Conference, St. Paul Humboldt has turned things around. The Hawks (7-8, 2-1) have already doubled their total number of conference wins since the 2014-15 season and are 1.5 games behind league-leader St. Paul Johnson in the standings.

Now is the time for St. Paul Humboldt to prove it has earned its position. Conference play started on Jan. 16, and the rest of the Hawks' regular season schedule will be against league opponents.

The offense has shown it can keep St. Paul Humboldt competitive, boasting four players who average at least 10 points per game. Davionte Davis leads all scorers with 14.5 ppg, while Darnell King (13.8 ppg) freshman Brian Williams (10.5 ppg) and Aryik Bell (10 ppg) also contribute heavily in the points column.

After two years of seeing rival St. Paul Central take the conference crown, St. Paul Johnson is in prime position to win the league for the first time since 2014-15.

Scoring has been more consolidated for the Governors (12-4 , 4-0), led by seniors Shemar Tucker-Adams (16.8 ppg) and Kyle Lee (14.2 ppg). The duo has helped the Governors win four straight and the team has all week to prepare to make it five with a win Friday.

If St. Paul Johnson can defeat St. Paul Humboldt and take care of business for a second time against St. Paul Central, the Governors will certainly be the favorites to win the St. Paul City title.
